The Importance Of Stainless Steel Flange Sizes

The basic characteristics of the stainless steel flange are composed of main parameters such as bolt holes, sealing surfaces, connecting pipe holes, bolt hole center distance, flange outer diameter, nominal size, nominal pressure, etc. The above parameters will be different for different steel flanges, so you should pay attention to the matching when selecting. For example, flanges should have the same number of bolt holes and the bolt holes should have the same diameter. Otherwise, paired assembly cannot be achieved and the connection and sealing functions of the flange cannot be completed.
Different Stainless Steel Flange Sizes
In stainless steel flanges, the nominal size DN and the nominal pressure PN are two invisible basic parameters.
The nominal size DN does not refer to the diameter of the flange connecting hole, nor does it refer to the outer diameter of the steel pipe connected to the flange.
It is the nominal size of the flange, indicating the size of the flange, numerically and connected to it. The nominal dimensions of the steel pipes are the same. The nominal pressure of the flange PN limits the pressure range of the flange.
The standard flange will print out the flange’s nominal size DN, nominal pressure PN and the specific values of other parameters in the form of a steel stamp on the outer cylindrical surface of the flange to facilitate user selection.
The nominal pressure range of the flange is PN2.5PN160; that is, there are nine grades of PN2.5, PN6, PN10, PN16, PN25, PN40, PN63, PN100, and PN160. In our daily applications, the three specifications that are most exposed are PN10, PN16, and PN25, which represent pressures of 1.0MPa, 1.6MPa, and 2.5MPa, respectively.
Note: The general principle for selecting the nominal pressure level of pipe flanges is that it can be higher than the design pressure of the vessel (or the design pressure of the pipeline) or the pressure level can be appropriately increased, for example: the design pressure is 1.0 MPa, and the nominal pressure of the flange is 1.6 MPa (PN 16).
